Google Workspace Email Alternative: 2026 Guide
Google Workspace is excellent for human inboxes and collaboration. Here is where it fits, where it does not, and when a transactional email API is the better tool.
Disclosure: Traffsite is our product. This review covers the competitor first, states where another tool fits, and describes Traffsite last.

Google Workspace is the obvious choice when you need a real inbox on your own domain. Gmail is familiar, the admin console is mature, and the plan includes Calendar, Meet, Drive, Docs and more.
The confusion starts when teams use a mailbox product for application email. Receipts, password resets, one-time codes and alerts are not the same job as a person reading an inbox.
This guide separates the two jobs. It covers what Google Workspace does well, where a different tool fits, and when Traffsite Email Services is the right choice. Traffsite is our product, so it comes last.
Why look beyond Google Workspace
Google Workspace does the human side of email well.
People already know Gmail. Training is short, search is good, and the mobile apps are familiar.
You get more than email. Calendar, Meet, Chat, Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides are part of the same account. For a small team, that removes several separate subscriptions.
The admin controls are complete. You can add users, set aliases, manage groups, enforce two-step verification and control devices from one console.
Security is a core part of the product. Google says Gmail blocks more than 99.9% of spam, phishing and malware. That is Google's own figure, and it is a fair reason to trust the inbox.
India pricing is published. As of November 2026, the monthly India prices are ₹99 for Base, ₹270 for Starter and ₹1,080 for Standard, per user. Enterprise pricing is custom. Google often runs introductory offers, so check the page before you buy.
None of that makes Workspace a bad product. It makes it a mailbox and collaboration product, which is a different job from an email API.
Where the gaps are, with other tools in the space compared
The first gap is the unit of billing. Workspace charges per user. An app that sends 20,000 receipts a month does not need 20,000 mailboxes. It needs a sending service.
The second gap is the API surface. Workspace is built around people using Gmail. An application needs a simple send endpoint, templates, delivery events, bounce handling, suppression lists and idempotency keys. Those are transactional email features, not mailbox features.
The third gap is the sending reputation. A mailbox provider protects the inbox. A transactional provider protects the sending domain and shows you what happened to each message.
The market splits into three groups.
| Tool | Best fit | Pricing model | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Workspace | Human inboxes and team collaboration | Per user, per month | Gmail, Calendar, Meet, Drive and admin in one plan |
| Microsoft 365 | Human inboxes with Office and Teams | Per user, per month | Strong fit for Microsoft shops |
| Zoho Mail | Low-cost business mailboxes | Per user, per month | Part of the wider Zoho suite |
| Titan | Mailboxes sold through hosting partners | Per user, per month | Often bundled with a domain or host |
| Fastmail | Privacy-focused mailboxes | Per user, per month | Small team focus, no broad office suite |
| Hostinger Email | Mailboxes attached to hosting | Per mailbox or plan | Convenient if the site already lives there |
| Namecheap Private Email | Budget mailboxes on a domain | Per mailbox | Simple mailbox product |
| GoDaddy Professional Email | Mailboxes for GoDaddy customers | Per user, per month | Convenient inside the GoDaddy account |
| Traffsite Email Services | Application email and hosted mailboxes | Prepaid packs plus mailbox fee | Our product, covered below |
Setup, limits and reporting compared
Google Workspace setup starts with domain verification and MX records. You then create users, set aliases and decide who can manage the account. The plan sets pooled storage. As of November 2026, Base includes 20 GB per user, Starter 30 GB, Standard 2 TB and Enterprise 5 TB.
The limits are mostly per user. The Base plan supports up to 20 users. Starter and Standard support up to 300. Enterprise has no published user limit.
Reporting is built for people and administrators. You can see account activity, security alerts and mailbox usage. You do not get a message-level delivery log for application email, because that is not the product's job.
A transactional email API works the other way around. You verify a domain, publish SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, create an API key and send. The dashboard shows accepted messages, delivered events, bounces and complaints. Webhooks push those events to your app.
Traffsite Email Services follows that model. The free start includes 20 emails for 30 days. Paid sending uses prepaid packs, and mailboxes are billed per mailbox each month. You can read the current numbers on the pricing page.
Pricing and best-fit use cases
Google Workspace is priced per user. The published India prices in November 2026 are ₹99 for Base, ₹270 for Starter and ₹1,080 for Standard, per user per month. Enterprise is a sales conversation. Promotional prices and annual billing can change the figure, so confirm at checkout.
Microsoft 365, Zoho Mail, Titan, Fastmail, Hostinger, Namecheap and GoDaddy all use a per-user or per-mailbox model. They compete on the inbox, the suite and the price.
Transactional providers price per message or per pack. Amazon SES, Brevo, Mailgun and Postmark sit in that group. Traffsite falls here too, with prepaid email packs and a separate mailbox fee.
Best fit by situation:
- Choose Google Workspace when people need Gmail, Calendar, Meet and Drive on your domain.
- Choose Microsoft 365 when the team already works in Outlook, Office and Teams.
- Choose Zoho or Titan when the priority is a low-cost business mailbox.
- Choose Fastmail when privacy and a focused mailbox product matter more than an office suite.
- Choose a transactional API when an app sends receipts, codes and alerts.
When to choose Google Workspace or another tool instead
Choose Google Workspace when the inbox is the product. That means real people reading mail, shared calendars, video meetings, cloud storage and an admin console. It is also the right call when Gemini in Gmail or the Google app suite is part of how the team works.
Choose Microsoft 365 instead when Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams are already standard. Choose Zoho Mail or Titan when budget is the main constraint and the team only needs mailboxes. Choose Fastmail when you want a smaller, privacy-focused provider.
Choose a transactional email service when the sender is your application. That is the case for purchase receipts, password resets, one-time codes, shipping updates, alerts and webhooks.
Where Traffsite fits
Traffsite Email Services is a transactional email API plus hosted mailboxes.
The API is built for application mail. You verify a domain, add the DNS records, create a scoped key and send with one request. Delivery events, bounces and complaints come back through signed webhooks. Idempotency keys keep retries safe.
The mailbox side is for people. You can add mailboxes on a verified domain and read them in Traffsite Mailbox in the browser. Mailboxes are billed per mailbox each month, separate from sending credits.
The free start gives a new account 20 emails for 30 days. After that, sending uses prepaid packs. Prices are in rupees, and GST is added at checkout.
Traffsite does not replace Google Workspace for calendars, video meetings or document editing. If you need those, keep Workspace. If the problem is application email and a simple mailbox on your domain, Traffsite covers that job.
Start with a free account, verify one domain and send a test message. The first delivery log tells you more than a feature table.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
6 answersOpen any question to read the answer.
01Is Google Workspace an email API?
No. Google Workspace is a mailbox and collaboration suite built around Gmail, Calendar, Meet and Drive. Applications can send mail through Google's developer interfaces, but the product is designed for people using inboxes.
02How much does Google Workspace cost in India?
As of November 2026, the monthly India prices are ₹99 for Base, ₹270 for Starter and ₹1,080 for Standard, per user. Enterprise is custom. Introductory offers can lower the first months, so check the official page.
03Can I use Google Workspace for transactional email?
It is not the best fit. Workspace gives you mailboxes and a shared sending reputation. A transactional API gives you message-level events, templates, suppression and a sending domain built for application mail.
04Do I need both mailboxes and an email API?
Many teams do. People need an inbox. The product needs a reliable way to send receipts, resets and alerts. Keeping the two jobs separate makes limits, logs and billing easier to understand.
05Does Traffsite offer mailboxes?
Yes. Traffsite offers hosted mailboxes on a domain verified in Email Services, plus an email API for application mail. Mailboxes are billed per mailbox each month.
06Can Traffsite replace Google Workspace completely?
No. Traffsite does not provide calendars, video meetings or document editing. It replaces the application email and mailbox parts of the job, not the whole collaboration suite.
