Cloudflare Web Analytics is one of the simplest privacy-first analytics products available. It is free, it does not use cookies or local storage, and it can collect data at the edge if your site already runs behind Cloudflare.

That is enough for many sites. It is not enough for every site.

This review looks at the job Cloudflare does well, the jobs that need a different tool, and when Traffsite Analytics is the better fit. Traffsite is our product, so we have kept that section last.

Why look beyond Cloudflare Web Analytics

Cloudflare's product has clear strengths.

It is free. Cloudflare offers Web Analytics at no cost. That removes the budget conversation for a small site.

It is privacy-first. Cloudflare says the product does not use client-side state such as cookies or local storage, and does not fingerprint visitors through IP address or user agent for analytics.

It has two collection paths. You can add a JavaScript beacon, or collect at Cloudflare's edge if your site is proxied through Cloudflare. The edge path needs no code on the page.

It shows the basics clearly. The dashboard covers top hostnames, URLs, countries and status codes. You can filter the view and zoom into a traffic spike.

It includes performance data. The beacon can show how fast the site feels to visitors in different regions. That is useful when speed is part of the problem.

None of that is a knock on the product. It is intentionally focused.

Where the gaps are, with other tools in the space compared

Cloudflare Web Analytics is built around page views and essential traffic metrics. If you need to define a signup, a purchase or a form submit as a goal and follow the steps that lead to it, you will want a different tool.

The second gap is visitor detail. Cloudflare's public product page describes aggregate views, URLs, countries and status codes. A support team looking at one visit, with device, source and IP data, needs a product built for that view.

The third gap is reporting depth. Cloudflare gives you a clean summary. It does not try to be a full analytics workspace with explorations, funnels or ad attribution.

The market splits into a few useful groups.

Tool Best fit Pricing model What to know
Cloudflare Web Analytics Sites on Cloudflare that want free page metrics Free Focused on page views and performance
Plausible A simple privacy-first dashboard Paid cloud, self-hosted option Small report surface by design
Fathom A simple privacy-first dashboard Paid cloud Small report surface by design
Umami Open-source analytics Self-hosted free; cloud paid You run the server if self-hosted
Matomo A full analytics suite you can host Self-hosted free; cloud paid More setup and maintenance
Simple Analytics A privacy-first dashboard Paid Small, focused product
Google Analytics 4 Teams that need Google Ads and BigQuery Free; 360 is custom Consent and retention settings need care
Traffsite Analytics Cookieless traffic, goals and visitor detail Free plan; paid plans in rupees Our product, covered below

The right choice depends on the question you ask most often. Page views are one question. Conversion paths are another.

Setup, limits and reporting compared

Cloudflare setup is short. If the site is already proxied through Cloudflare, you can turn on Web Analytics from the dashboard. If it is not, you add a JavaScript beacon to the page.

The edge path is a real advantage. There is no script to maintain and no client-side collection to explain in a privacy policy. The trade is that the data comes from Cloudflare's network view, not from a tag you control.

Reporting is clean and aggregate. You see top pages, countries, status codes and performance. You can filter and zoom. That is enough to spot a broken page, a traffic spike or a slow region.

A goals and funnel tool starts one layer deeper. You define the action that matters, such as a signup or a purchase. You then see the pages and sources that lead to it.

Traffsite Analytics takes that path. One script tag collects visits without cookies. You get visitors, pages, sources, realtime and goals. Paid plans add per-visitor detail such as IP and ISP.

The free Traffsite plan covers one website and 100,000 events a month. Paid plans start at ₹899 a month and add more sites, longer history, team access and visitor detail. Prices are in rupees and exclude GST.

Pricing and best-fit use cases

Cloudflare Web Analytics is free. Cloudflare sells paid plans for its wider network platform, but Web Analytics itself does not need a separate analytics subscription.

That is a strong offer for a site that only needs page views and performance. It is also a good first analytics tool for a new site.

The privacy-first alternatives usually charge a monthly subscription. Plausible, Fathom and Simple Analytics sit there. Umami and Matomo can be self-hosted, so your cost becomes server time and maintenance.

Google Analytics 4 is free for most sites. It adds Google Ads links, BigQuery export and a much larger reporting surface. The trade is setup and consent work.

Traffsite Analytics has a free plan and paid plans from ₹899 a month. The paid tiers add goals, more sites and per-visitor detail. The pricing page lists current limits.

Best fit by situation:

  • Choose Cloudflare Web Analytics if your site is on Cloudflare and page views are the main question.
  • Choose Plausible or Fathom if you want a small privacy-first dashboard and a paid product.
  • Choose Umami or Matomo if you want to host analytics yourself.
  • Choose GA4 if Google Ads, BigQuery or deep analysis are required.
  • Choose Traffsite if you want cookieless traffic plus goals and visitor detail in one account.

When to choose Cloudflare Web Analytics or another tool instead

Choose Cloudflare Web Analytics when you are already on Cloudflare, when you want a free privacy-first tool, or when the edge view is more useful than a client-side tag. It is also a sensible second source next to a larger analytics tool.

Choose a goals and funnel tool when the question is not "how many visits" but "which visits became customers". Choose a per-visitor tool when support or fraud checks need to see one visit in detail.

Choose GA4 when advertising attribution, audiences or BigQuery exports are part of the plan. Choose a self-hosted tool when data location and server control matter more than setup time.

Choose Traffsite when you want a single cookieless dashboard for traffic, sources, goals and visitor detail, with pricing in rupees.

Where Traffsite fits

Traffsite Analytics is a cookieless web analytics tool. One script tag records visits without cookies. You get visitors, pages, sources, realtime activity and goals. Paid plans add per-visitor detail, including IP and ISP.

The free plan covers one website and 100,000 events a month. Paid plans start at ₹899 a month. The pricing page lists current limits and includes GST details.

Traffsite does not replace Cloudflare at the edge, and it does not try to be a network security product. It replaces the analytics job: seeing traffic, sources and conversions in one place without a cookie banner.

If Cloudflare already answers your page view questions, keep it. Add Traffsite when you need goals, funnels or a visit-level table. The two can run side by side, and the numbers should be close enough to compare trends.

Start with the free Traffsite plan and one script tag. You will know within a day whether the extra detail is useful.

Cloudflare says Web Analytics does not use client-side state such as cookies or local storage, and does not fingerprint visitors through IP address or user agent for analytics.
